In the seventeenth century, when the Dutch flag waved proudly across the world’s oceans and cannons thundered on the horizon, one man stood as a symbol of unity, strength, and devotion: Michiel de Ruyter. Under his command, our marines braved storms, enemies, and distant shores always with the same indomitable spirit that, 360 years later, still flows through the Korps Mariniers.

In those days, long before whisky made its way to the Netherlands, another drink flowed across the wooden decks of ships: eau de vie. This strong, clear brandy was the sailors’ companion the elixir that warmed them after cold nights at sea and was raised in celebration after every victory, a symbol of camaraderie and honor.

To mark the 360th anniversary of the Korps Mariniers, we bring you a unique tribute to that proud tradition.
