"Delicious apple juice!" - Eymardville at WTF2024
And surprised they were, the visitors to the 2024 edition of Whisky Tasting Festival in Utrecht. Between all the Scotch peat, smoke and earth, suddenly the fresh taste of apple and a beautiful round finish. ‘Apple’ and 'wood' we got back from everyone. ‘Cinnamon’ often too. ‘Apricot’ and even 'anise'. Surprise too when connoisseurs noted that after all Eymardville Cask002 really is 42% ABV with such a long round finish.
In the huge Werkspoorkathedraal, WTF provided ample space for connoisseurs to pass by the stands of whisky importers, pourers and makers. How to take hardcore whisky drinkers on an adventure? A quick sniff is enough to get them to fill their tasting glasses. And then the surprise when it turns out that this is not a whisky, but a eau-de-vie. ‘Apple whisky’, ‘Dutch Calvados!’. And after describing that only water, yeast and apple are used for Eymardville, ‘Aha, apple juice.... But what a delicious apple juice this is!’
And when you are surprised yourself, you want to do the same for others. ‘I'm going to order these from the webshop to put down in a whisky tasting for my friends’.
