Aureau! Our brand new Vin de Liqueur. Available now.

Master distiller Leon van Welie is constantly looking for new ways to offer his customers a fresh tasting experience. This winter, Leon is releasing his first bottling of Aureau.

"In great restaurants," he explains, "desserts and cheeses are more often accompanied by fortified wines than by port or dessert wines. Sommeliers know these surprise their guests. Examples include MacVin du Jura, Pineau des Charentes and Ratafia. All of these are made from grapes. The challenge I set myself was to create a similar smoothness and sweetness using my own fruit."

He took eau-de-vie that had matured for two years, added fresh fruit juice, and matured the resulting blend in oak barrels for a further 14 months.

"The result is spectacular," says Leon. "Sweetness without added sugar as in my liqueurs. More fruitiness. And at 27% ABV it still packs a punch! In 2026, we'll release other bottlings made from different combinations of fruits and different alcohol percentages. We have high expectations!"

"As well as being a great accompaniment to desserts and cheeses, Aureau is a wonderful aperitif, and can be used as a fantastic cocktail ingredient."
